"Epitaphios by Yiannis Ritsos, through MikisTheodorakis and Manos Hadjidakis"
Lecture by Manolis Androulidakis

With the participation of the Music Ensembles (Synola) of University of Thessaly
Arrangement / music instruction / guitar: Manolis Androulidakis
Vocal instruction: Maria Thoidou

The reformers of greek music, Mikis Theodorakis and Manos Hadjidakis, met as members of EPON (United Panhellenic Organization of Youth) during the dramatic years of the Civil War, and remained connected until the end of Hadjidakis’s life due to their friendship and mutual respect. Taking as a starting point their approaches to the work Epitaphios by Y. Ritsos and M. Theodorakis, the presentation explores the historical context that led to the two recordings, the ideological starting points of the two productions, and reflections on committed art and the relationship between ideology and art — more as a basis for reflection and discussion, and less as an ideological manifesto.
